[Qgis-user] clip tool on QGIS1.4

Dear all,
Using QGIS1.4 (on a MacBook with 4MB RAM), I'm having problems using clip (Vector->geometry tools). 


It works fine with small datasets. When trying to clip a large  
shapefile (42MB) based on a relatively small buffer, it just creates a  
new empty shapefile.


I'm thinking of installing an older version of QGIS. Would this help?
