Photomodeller is clearly not the way to go, as it assumes that your (many) pictures are convergent towards the object of interest. It is thus appropriate for a 3D model of a building of which you take many pictures from different angles, but not for what I understand Johan needs.
efoto seemed to be a good OS solution, but I also noticed it is not too active (clich Summary in http://www.ohloh.net/p/e-foto). Please let the list know if you do and/or decide to restart it. Regarding grass, I think that Johan must have really good (accurate) tie points, as for most (not all) photogrammetric packages. Also, I suspect his pictures are of very high resolution, so no really useful DEM available. I'm also understanding that the pictures have not been orthorectified yet.
