When I use Vector > Data Management Tools > Join attributes... to join a csv to a vector layer the datatype for the new field in the vector is always a string (the data is invariably numeric). I then use the field calculator to create a new field with the string data converted to real. This is a little tedious. Is there an easier way?

If you convert the csv to a dbf file, and give the col headers an explicit number definition (i.e. Val,N,10), then the join will import the numeric values.

Thanks,
