Please send more from the logfile, not only the lines with "garmin" in them - there should be some important lines above those lines you sent...

Otherwise, I do not have any idea at the moment - your Garmin should be available on /dev/ttyUSB0 - does this node exist? Otherwise maybe consult on the console "man MAKEDEV" ... but here we are deep down in your system, this should only be "Plan B" (BIG WARNING SIGN)
