I believe any device with a connectivity option (usb or serial) and nmea output 
will do. You will need to check the specs, but if you can get hold of a used 
Garmin device with an output option and a cable, you will be in good shape.

There are also units without displays if you won't be needing that. For 
example, http://goo.gl/jWvme , although I have not tried one of these myself.
