Hello, I had the same problem in 1.5 on windows Vista 32bits. It's much better now (running 1.6).
If I remember well, the same problem occured in 1.6. At a certain moment, I disabled/unloaded several plugins I didn't use. Can't remember if it was linked with this problem or another one. Regards, Paul Lens
