ESRI has a lot of symbols installed as fonts which works pretty well
for point layers in QGIS. If you've previously installed ARC on the
same PC you can use use a symbol from a font for the symbol. I don't
recall the exact steps but it must have been pretty simple if I
figured it out.

You can also hunt for the fonts directory on an PC that's had ARC
installed, select the esri fonts and install them on another machine
or OS.
