Dear all I face the same problem, ECW data not supported... I tried both on a WinXP workstation and on a Netbook with W/ onboard.
Installed Qgis 1.7.2 trough "osgeo4w-setup", with gdal-ecw 1.8.0.1. My qgis.bat says: "@echo off SET OSGEO4W_ROOT=d:\OSGeo4W call "%OSGEO4W_ROOT%"\bin\o4w_env.bat call "%OSGEO4W_ROOT%"\apps\grass\grass-6.4.2RC2\etc\env.bat @echo off SET GDAL_DRIVER_PATH=%OSGEO4W_ROOT%\bin\gdalplugins\1.8 path %PATH%;%OSGEO4W_ROOT%\apps\qgis\bin;%OSGEO4W_ROOT%\apps\grass\grass-6.4.2RC2\lib start "Quantum GIS" /B "%OSGEO4W_ROOT%"\apps\qgis\bin\qgis.exe %* " So the gdal environment path seems ok, right? I followed this link to set Qgis and ECW http://planet.qgis.org/planet/tag/ecw/ I installed "ECWJP2SDKSetup_20100920.exe" (that is SDK 4.1 Read only) from ERDAS and tried to copy the 8 *.dll (found in "ERDAS\ERDAS ECW JPEG2000 SDK\bin\vc90\win32") both in System32, or in D:\OSGeo4W\bin, or in d:\OSGeo4W\bin\gdalplugins\1.8. Nothing to do, ECW isn't supported.. Yesterday, on the netbook, in a first installation I downloaded "ECWJP2SDKSetup_RO_20110303.exe", that is 4.2 version of the SDK-RO. At first I tried to open ECW and QGis started working but in a wait state. I stopped it and tried to open a smaller ecw and it displayed it, but after a while it crashed. So I realized that it was needed the 4.1 version of ECW-SDK and I used it. By that point nothing to do, no compatibility.. In what am I wrong?
