thanks kindly for your reply. It really really helps me! Because i'm using
Sql Server 2008 (with geographies) I can 'export' the boundary as a GML
(phew) .. which means I should be able to import it back into QGIS (based
upon what you've said) :) :)

/me goes off to give this a go ...

I can get the WKT to import but not any GML :( I guess my GML is in an
invalid format?
