Same problem with "extents" (QGIS 1.7.4 - Ubuntu 11.10). My solution:
don't cut an active layer, try "select" button in order to QGIS finds
the raster file. It works for me.

I am using QGIS to clip a raster using a mask. All files and the
project are in the same projection. I have tried with both 'on the fly
reprojection' on and off. I have also tried clipping the raster in the
form of a tif and as a asc file, but whatever I try the error comes up
'Cannot compute bounding box of cutline'. I have checked that the
boundaries of the vector file are within the boundaries of the raster,
but no matter how far inside the raster the vector file boundaries
fall it still fails. I tried using 'extents' and it worked, but I need
to be able to use the mask.
Does anyone know what the problem is, or is this a bug.
Thanks
Hannah
