Hi Martin, I think QGIS will only work with MSSQL in Mac OS X and Linux with iODBC driver/library support in it.
QGIS must be compiled with iODBC driver / library. I cc:ed you in my post to QGIS developer regarding this issue. You can probably compiled QGIS with iodbc library yourself.
