This behavior is caused by the option reply_goes_to_list :
http://www.gnu.org/software/mailman/mailman-admin/node11.html (with a link to
two somewhat outdated takes on the advantages/drawbacks)

I would really love to see this setting in the mailing list, as right now I
have to think about it each time I write an email, and I have seen it cause a
lot of emails answered privately instead of to the list. The debate
"munging/not munging" does not really have any meaning now, especially for a
list not very technically oriented (sorry, brain-dead software and users won).

Regarding top/bottom post, I prefer top-posting because I want to see the new
content without scrolling the whole discussion, but if anyone feels very
strongly about this, I can adapt.

Regards

Leyan

Subject: Re: [Qgis-user] List protocol

I am using gmail on the web, and there are little strange reply options.
Sometimes I come to the sender, and sometimes to the list, and sometime AND
the sender... And sometimes I don't have the [email protected] adress
in the header, so I have to go to another mail, to copy it.

Hi,

While we are debating list language, should we not also debate list protocol -
like are we a top or bottom posting list?

I tend to post according to the posting style to the message I am responding to.

If you look at the recent top-post to a "bottom-post" message thread on the
Spanish language debate, you'll see what I mean: Three "bottom posts, then all
of a sudden a top post that directly references the last (bottom) post.

It just gets messy, and as this list grows, we should perhaps consider gently
but firmly adhering to jointly agreed upon protocols - including of course
the famous (to all lists) thread-hijacking topic.

Regards to all,

Zoltan
