Hmm,

I have to recall my last mail.
I did some tests: QGIS 1.8 OSGEO install, WinXP, DualCore Intel with 2GB RAM, A0-Plot with PDFCreator (scale 1:15000), layout contains only map, no legend, no grid, no nothing
1) WMTS-Layer
2) WMTS-Layer with 3 Polygons as overlay (new symbology, line fill)
3) Raster-Background Layer (geotif with 16 colors, no Pyramids), same overlay as before 4) WMS Layer (arial photo, no tiles, from local geoserver instance), same overlays

all 4 print OK, no crashes

I have to check with my users, if they had any crashes lately and which layers they tried to plot.

I did not thoroughly check now but as far as I remember
- with big rasters: yes (only vectors: no)
- WMS: yes (have to try again with new tile-option in 1.8)
- all printers and pdf/png export
- QGIS fails

I can confirm these issues. We often print in non-standard formats (custom
paper size), since we have many plotter.
