When you say large, do you mean such a large area or large dataset.
I've worked a couple of projects that had some overlap into other utm
zones, data was stored in lats and longs and reprojected to utm for
measurements. Where we needed to measure between zones we lived with the
small (for us anyway) error.

Good Day QGIS Users!

I am working on a GIS project where my area of interest (drainage basin and
river network) cover two UTM Zones. In this case, I cannot use UTM to
compute for area and distance, and to perform other analysis in which
spatial data needs to be projected. What projection can I use? Is Equal
Area Cylindrical NSIDC EASE - Grid Global (EPSG: 3410) okay to use if
working on a very large spatial dataset? Is this widely used by GIS users?
Thank you.
