I also remember a decimal-separator problem with QGIS 1.8 (which applies
if you are using the German , in your system's settings and thus in the
composer). Marco Hugentobler fixed that but I am not sure if the fix has
been backported. So maybe you should update your server to current master.

I have a QGIS Server 1.8 instance running and trying to use getPrint.
I manage to get a PDF with the labels I created in composer and the
legend displays correctly but the map is empty (just the frame is
visible). I've posted the request below. CRS and extent should be
correct. I don't understand the width and height parameter in this
case though. Is there something obviously wrong? Should it work in
1.8? Maybe I should note that the WMS works fine in my OpenLayers web
