Justin, I also have a copy of Geo_DSDK-7.0.0.2167 but I get the following error after sudo gdal-mrsid-build $HOME/Geo_DSDK-7.0.0.2167 configure: error: libgeotiff is required to build GDAL MrSID driver
while libgeotiff is actually installed. This error has been reported a long time ago: http://trac.osgeo.org/ubuntugis/ticket/21 How where you able to go around this problem?
