We have to clarify something here. If you are connecting an external GPS, e.g Garmin Glo to you via tablet via Bluetooth then I have no doubt it will work fine as most of the time they are exposed using a COM port. Markus is talking about the internal GPS device that is built in to some of these new tablets. The internal GPS uses the new interface to let applications receive the GPS information.
