Thanks Nathan!

That is exactly what I was looking for. Didn't know it was there, in the composer.

The composer map view already support alpha for background colour in 2.0

Alpha in the main QGIS map window background colour isn't supported yet.

    Hi Otto,

Unfortunately this is not possible. I could use this as well,
making it possible to put two map-items on top of each other in a
    composer.

Currently, in the options dialog, the "select color" (yellow) has
a color-dialog containing the alpha channel. The "background
color" has a dialog without it.

        Hi,

is it possible to set the background color in QGIS
        transparent. Can it be
done in settings - project properties - backgroud color?

        Thanks
        Otto
