In case you haven solved it already, it is caused by the installer creating the .qgis2 folder as root so your local account can store the qgis configuration files etc (messes up sextante too). Had the same problem just now (Aug 8) on fresh install of nightly build!
Just chown the directory and the gdal_pam folder contained therein, or remove .qgis2 altogether and recreate it as your regular user.
