If you think it could be useful, you could contact the original author
and ask him if he has plans to upgrade the polygon. If he is like me, it
often helps if you know that people use or appreciate your plugin :-)
If he is not reachable or does not have time for the upgrade, you can
ask if it is ok if someone from the community takes up this work or can
help him.
You can also try the plugin first in a 1.8 QGIS install (because there
the installation in QGIS should just work)...
