That's a common behaviour of most software.Styling, filtering and assigning field widgets, etc. can be a lot of work. If you accidentally delete the layer you better want a confirmation to do so. On the other hand we got rid of the confirmation for deleting features, because there is an undo for this action. Would there be an undo for deleting layers I would be fine to go without the confirmation but not in the current situation. What if you tracked whether there had been style changes? If not then just remove since the user has an undo just reload the layer. Or if they loaded the style or saved the style since again the user could undo? I'm still using 1.8 for most work so hadn't noticed this much but it is annoying to have to confirm and even though it's the default if I hit the return key I'm just using the mouse and usually when I'm removing layers I just want my mouse to stay in the layers like it does with 1.8.
