Hi Ross

You must save those symbols like png file. Next convert to svg file. You can do this with this converter: http://image.online-convert.com/convert-to-svg
Next put your svg symbols in this path C:\OSGeo4W\apps\qgis\svg
also You can create a new folder on this path.

Temat: [Qgis-user] Well Symbols

This is my first post to your list. Hello!

How can I add oil and gas well symbols to a map? An example of what I am looking for is at:

http://igs.indiana.edu/pdms/Help/Petroleum_Well_Symbols.htm

ESRI has a symbol set, I think it is called: esri: oil, gas, water

Are symbols in QGIS like a font?
I've been looking for something I could download and use in a vector layer. And, If I could get my hands on such a symbol set what would I do with it? I mean, how would I install it? Does it go in a directory with qgis? How would I make it an option that I could choose (in properties, labels, styles) if I had it? In other words, where would it live. Would it be available in every new project I create in QGIS or would I need to add it in.

I've downloaded County oil and gas wells from the Texas Railroad Commission and QGIS shows a dot like a bullet point. I'm thinking that those shapefiles would pull

I'm really enjoying QGIS!

R
