Dear Nicole, it might be a "problem" of your hardware and difficult to solve on the ml, if it only happens on your pc with the same layer. As a workaround for that file, you could create a .qml style file for the jpg file, after you changed the channel order to r,g,b as necessary. This lets QGIS load the file with the channel order you defined.
