One thing you can check for is if there is a faulty plugin causing the issue.
Try backing up your .qgis2 folder (ie, rename to .qgis2.backup) Then relaunch QGIS 2.6 and test again. What's the data storage format? Are they spatialite, postgis, shapefiles, etc?
