Sorry,
If you install 2.4, your old QGIS 1.8 shortcuts are not always removed.
You can delete them.  To open QGIS, go to start - osgeo4w - qgis2.4. If
you can't find any shortcuts in your menu, try reinstalling QGIS.  What
install are you using?
Is this what you are looking for?

Hi

I think you are not getting my exact problem, I mean to say, after installing
the QGIS, I found two icon over my laptop desktop.

1.Quantum GIS Browser (1.8.0)
2.
Quantum GIS Desktop (1.8.0)

When I am double click over these icon nothing is happening, normally on other
laptop one blank page open.

I know 4 .tab file is required to open the map in one location.

Hi,
Unlike most file formats, a .tab file is actually 4 files with 4 different
extensions (see below).  They must all be copied at the same place in the
computer (same directory) if you want to open the .tab.

Make sure you have all 4 files.  If all you have is the .tab, nothing will
work.  Could this be the problem?
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MapInfo_TAB_format
"So the basic file set for viewing data and its graphic representation in
vector form within MapInfo Professional requires a minimum of four files,
normally the *.TAB, *.MAP, *.DAT and *.ID. If there is only textual information
with no graphic objects, then a minimum of two files is needed: *.TAB and
*.DAT."

Hi,
I am unable to open one normal blank page itself, without any tab by double
clicking over desktop QGIS icon.

As per my observation it is just like capability related issue.

My laptop os is win7. And make of laptop is fisitgu make. Same is working over
Dell make laptop with win7 os.

Hi,

maybe your tab-file is corrupted? Does your other tab-files work properly? As
workaround you could use Universal Translator in MapInfo and convert MapInfo
Tab to Esri Shape (for example). Try opening this in QGIS.

Hope it helps!

Well to be more clear, use the following links to download a newer version:

Standalone Installer
http://qgis.org/downloads/QGIS-OSGeo4W-2.4.0-1-Setup-x86.exe

OR OSGeo4w Installer
http://download.osgeo.org/osgeo4w/osgeo4w-setup-x86.exe

When in doubt always go to http://qgis.org  for your downloads.

Thanks,
Alex
