Hi Saber

Thanks for that - sorted.

What was confusing me was how to generate the INI file in the first place.
Starting QGIS from the command line with the - - configpath option set to
C:\temp\qgis2 sorted that. And then setting all the options in QGIS wrote the
settings to the INI file (including PG and WMS connections). And this file can
now be copied to the shared drive (or to each laptop).

That's just saved me three hours!

Cheers

Ross

Hi Ross,

You can set it once, save it on a shared drive. And change the bat file to
start qgis with that config file:
start "QGIS" /B "%OSGEO4W_ROOT%"\bin\qgis-bin.exe %*
to
start "QGIS" /B "%OSGEO4W_ROOT%"\bin\qgis-bin.exe --configpath X:\FOLDERWHERE
USER HAVE FULL ACCESS\.qgis %*
X:\FOLDERWHERE USER HAVE FULL ACCESS should be something like this:
h:\%USERNAME% this is, for example, the shared folder for each user on h: drive
in windows.

For WMS and PG connection, maybe you can set one, save it and share it with
others.

Cheers,
Saber

Subject: [Qgis-user] Starting QGIS with pre-configured settings

Hi List

I need to run QGIS on a set of laptops (8) for some short internal training
sessions for 24 different users. How can I get QGIS to start with some config
options (see here http://qgis.tips/tip/10) so that each user has a PostgreSQL
connection, a couple of WMS connections and some default options set
(rendering, CRS, proxy, etc)?

Getting each user to set up the connections and options takes a chunk of time
at the beginning of the session. Get all users to open a default project with
the training layers loaded?

Thanks

Ross
