Do you mean based on a calculation (expression)?
Unfortunately, this is not possible yet. You'd have to calculate a new
raster file for that.
It would be an interesting addition to QGIS - if you really care about
it you might consider sponsoring this as a new feature. The expression
engine is already quite powerful in QGIS - so it should be possible.

Actually - there may be a workaround by (but not too intuitive). I
believe you can create a virtual raster file (VRT) where you can do
calculations. It is basically an XML file where you can mix/change
channels or do calculations on the raster. This is done on the fly. So
instead of loading your original raster - you would load the VRT file -
which contains and applies the calculations on the fly.
