In cmake gui is the right choice, the env variable is ignored. Maybe you have to "make clean" before running "make" again? It seems that there are no debug symbols available yet. And once they are available, it seems that there's still an issue with X of which I am not sure if it brings the application to its knees even before it arrives at the point where the crash we are interested in is.
