Hi,
QGIS does not yet have the concept of rasters classes linked with database file
like vector data is. Clark lab and Esri have this
concept. Clark lab had this implemented around 2000. The best
you can do is to select colors based on numerical categories and then save this
color ramp.

Hi All, I have been successfully using Qgis to display various data such as my
point locations and Maxent output. I have a fantastic dataset from Geoscience
Australia (The National Dynamic Land Cover Dataset). It has categorised data in
34 classes I have opened the 'tif' file in Qgis and yes, there is lots
of granular data. Probably a newbie question but my question is: How do I get
this data to display in 34 categories and keep the class information (to export
later with Print Composer)? File list in Class$: lsDLCD_Colours_Labels.xls
DLCDv1_Class.tif DLCDv1_Class.tif.xml DLCDv1_Class.aux
DLCDv1_Class.tif.lyr DLCDv1_Class.rrd DLCDv1_Class.tif.vat.dbf
All I seem to get is a range of values but I can't get it to categorise the
data. Cheers, Steve
