Paolo, in order to extract a DEM with Elevation from inside QGIS we wrote a dedicated plugin https://github.com/bopen/qgis-elevation-plugin that is currently in the prototype / alpha state, but may be interesting to the mailing list users.
As for adding a processing provider, I'm not familiar with the concept, do you have any pointers to learn how to develop them? Thank you!
