Hi Rutger,
It would be useful to know the source for the digitised contours and the
procedure you used to create the shapefile.
You may have three options:
1. Go back to Adobe Illustrator and digitise some well defined known
reference points such as grid intersections or road junctions, with this
it should be possible in QGIS to move, scale and rotate the vector
contours to fit OpenStreetMap or OS Opendata online imagery of Mull and
Iona.
2. Request someone with the QGIS plug-ins qgisAffine or VectorBender
working to do the transformation for you.
3. Request someone with ArcGIS Spatial Adjustment to do the
transformation for you.

Mike

Hello everybody,
I’ve posted this question before and had some good suggestions (which
I tried as good as I can) but I’m not there yet.
I have this intricate contour lines map (.shp file) and after
importing, it sits in Africa. Now I want to drag it to Scotland and
make it fit. It’s not just the position, it also requires rotating and
stretching to make it fit.
I can’t get the qgisAffine or VectorBender plugins to work on qgis
3.4.3. and I don’t have any experience with GRASS7 commands which was
one suggestion. (I wil look into that)
Meanwhile, are there any other suggestions?
Thanks again.

Hi Rutger,
If you have successfully converted your Adobe Illustrator file into
an ESRI shapefile (using Avenza MaPublisher or DXf export ?) please
first check the quality of the linework in QGIS. Any Illustrator
vector bezier curves will probably have been simplified to straight
lines. To avoid the lines being too generalised use the Add Anchor
Points option in Illustrator several times if necessary to ensure the
curves are replicated by short straight line sections.
If you are using MaPublisher
<http://download.avenza.com/Downloads/Docs/MAPublisher/MP90_TutorialGuide.pdf>
there is the option to add the projection/datum.
Another alternative using Dxf format is:

Hello everybody,
Hope someone can help me out this Saturday night (or Sunday or Monday) but no
hurry!
How to georeference an Illustrator vector image (contour line map) from a
specific area?
I have qgis 3.4.3 installed and qgisAffine and Vector Blender plugins don’t
work for this version.
I managed to turn the file into a .shp file and I see it somewhere off the
coast of Ghana (coordinates 0,0) but how do I drag it into place?
I think I’m looking for a Vector Affine Transformation plugin or menu but can’t
find it.
Hope someone can help me in the right direction.
Thanks and have a nice weekend.
Rutger
