Hello Saber,

in the meantime I used New York 3D data to check out the 3D view tool.
Using the hints of your blog I'm having

 * a Buildings_3D_Multipatch layer from a
   DA10_3D_Buildings_Multipatch.gdb (vector layer)
 * SRTM data N40W074.hgt (raster layer)

now.

Next steps:

 * the srtm data in the 3D view tool: Type = DEM (raster layer) ,
   Elevation = N40W074
 * single symbol setting in the 3D view properties of
   Buildings_3D_Multipatch

Using SRTM data this way doesn't help to depict the vectors in 3D (I
thought the srtm data have the function of a master). Do I have to
convert file formats?
I'm using QGIS 3.10.2 and win10.

Cheers, Larissa

Hi Saber,

ok will the clipped Boulder data be suitable for the 3D dataset that we
want to provide in the qgis sample data?

I wonder if srtm data will have a good resolution. Will you also clip a
srtm dataset for usage in the qgis sample data?

Then I would of course prefer to use this data so that a user can
quickly check out the usage of the 3D view functionalities!

Hi Larissa,

I was clipping the Boulder data to something manageable. But if you
have moved to NY data, that should be fine too.

In terms of the underlying terrain, we have a separate blog post.
https://www.lutraconsulting.co.uk/blog/2018/03/01/working-with-qgis-3d-part-1/

Usually the z-scales in terrain and buildings do not line up nicely,
therefore I thought it is better to have 2 different sections: one on
terrain (rasters) and one on buildings (vector).

Let me know if you have any questions.

Kind regards
Saber

    Hi Saber,

I switched the location and prepared a geopackage with the 3D data
    of new york.

I think your blog should be updated as I still only can depict a
flat plane of the data in the 3d view tool.

Sorry for bothering but it's my task to write about the 3D
    settings in QGIS 3.10 ...

    Hi Saber,

thanks for giving me the hint. Do I need to add a raster layer
with height information like geoTiff (SRTM data etc.)

in order to define the position of the 3D buildings ? I got this
information in a presentation on youtube. Right now, after

defining the single symbol of walls and roofs (data city of
Boulder), there is only a plane :-(

    Cheers Larissa

    Hi Larissa,

Apologies. Boulder data indeed contain walls and roofs.

To view the data in 3D, you need to go to each layer and open
Properties > 3D view and change the style to Single symbol.

Also, the dataset is very large. It would be easier if you crop
the data to a smaller area.

        Hi Larissa,

Many thanks for looking into documenting this.

I had a quick look at the data. It is only the footprint.
So, you can only extrude the data (based on height).

There is a good data source of 3D buildings here:
        https://github.com/wonder-sk/3d-spatial-data

And for building in New York, we wrote a blog post here. The
data have z-valuse and should automatically get picked up by
        the 3D map view.

Feel free to use any of the content from our website in the
        documentation.

        Kind regards

            Hello folks,

for documentation purposes I'd like to visualize the 3d
            data of the city
of boulder in qgis 3.10 .

            https://bouldercolorado.gov/open-data/city-of-boulder-3d-buildings/

Unfortunately qgis crashes when loading the shapefile
            into the 3d view.

Also, where do I have access to the z-coordinate so that
            there will be a
3d view. At the moment there is only visible a plane
            with the vectors
but no "z-value"  in the 3d view application. Extrusion
            doesn't help
            solute the problem.

There is a hint that these data have something to do
            with GeoJSon, so
maybe I have to find another 3d data suitable for using
            in the 3D view
            application.

            Can somebody help?

            Cheers, Larissa
