Thank you.  The Manage Map Themes is exactly what I was
looking for.  That is going to save me quite a bit of time.

In the table of contents, the manage map themes icon has a drop down menu
with various options for layer visibility management [1].

In the processing tools interface, a toggle selection button is available
which changes the selected layers "checked" status [2].
