Well, that works perfectly. Thanks.

Probably I never left the pointer sitting over that button because it is grayed
out to barely visible (easy to ignore) unless something is selected.

But I also just noticed that after 2 features were selected and merged it
stayed visible (not grayed out) even when nothing is selected. Kind of strange
behavior. When clicked on it gives the error message that not enough features
are selected. I guess sometime somebody will fix it to RESET to grayed out
after every operation so it can’t be clicked on until something is selected. .
. .

Also, I wonder if anybody knows what it would take to get a Vertex Tool “line
segment center point X” changed to a more easily visible color. It must be a
simple thing. But I can’t be the only one that can barely see it (unless the
pointer is right over it, which means you already know where the selection/grab
point/X is) the X that is somewhere around the middle of the visible portion
between two vertices. The farther zoomed out you are the easier it is to see
it, but a lot of times you are zoomed in close when working with things. Maybe
make a good SOLID BLACK X that is easy to see in contrast with the red line
background it has (rather than gray that kind of blends in and is entirely
within the red line background when zoomed in close) and then when the pointer
is over it rather than a darker red maybe a bright yellow or green or something
(anything that contrasts more than red on red). (???)

I have looked round some and experimented and haven't come up with a
streamlined method (certainly not as streamlined as what was used in ArcGIS
before) of selecting some features from a layer and then Dissolving those
selected features and replacing them in that same layer. (I find the need to
do it quite often.)

Hi Jeff,
probably you will find useful to use the "Merge Selected Features" editing tool
available in the "Advanced Digitizing" toolbar or the "Edit" menu:
https://docs.qgis.org/3.16/en/docs/user_manual/working_with_vector/editing_geometry_attributes.html#merge-selected-features

Best regards.

Andrea
