Hi Jeremy,
Garth is indeed right. MrSID is not open source, therefore it's not installed 
by default.
Thankfully it's easy to install, I can only give you instructions for Windows 
though.

1)  Open OSGeo4W Setup
2)  Select Advanced Install
3)  Install from Internet
4)  Keep clicking Next until you get to Select Packages
5)  In the search bar Type Mr and you should see the list drop to just Libs. 
When you expand on this you will see the GDAL drivers for MrSID
6)  It will say Skip, if you click on this it will change to the current 
version.
7)  Click next and it will then go through the setup process. You will be 
required to accept the Licencing Agreement, but once finished you will be able 
to use MrSID format.
