Hi there and welcome to QGIS,

QGIS can read (and write) to multiple data formats/file types so try out lots
of them to see their capabilities (GPX, KML, Geopackage, Shape files etc). The
easiest way to find data is usually via a search with terms such as opendata,
wildlife etc.

Here is one such site - https://wildlifedata.org/

Let us know your particular country and interest and we may be able to supply
leads on other data sources.

If you are after documentation then head to
https://www.qgis.org/en/docs/index.html

Or better still I can highly recommend https://locatepress.com/book/dq32 for a
complete overview of QGIS capabilities.

There are, of course, hundreds of youtube videos as well but just watch out for
ones using older versions of the software. QGIS capabilities change rapidly
between versions.

Cheers - Phil

Subject: [Qgis-user] How to Learn QGIS.

Hello,

I'm a student pursuing my masters in wildlife biology, recently I came across
the concept of GIS and its applications in Wildlife, so with that willingness
to learn something new and upskill myself I want to learn QGIS and its
applications with Wildlife.

That being said I stumbled upon the resources on the QGIS website itself but at
the beginning only I faced problems with having to download shape files, like
how and where to download them from and what should be the file type for it to
function in QGIS.

And Lastly if anyone is knowledgeable or uses QGIS for Wildlife can someone
tell me which aspects of the software do I need to have more emphasis on?

Thank You.
