This has been an on-going issue for the past few releases. The workaround is to
open the images in their native projection. Not sure if is a proj issue or a
QGIS issue.

if you think that it is a bug, even more so if the issue didn't occur in
previous versions, so it would be a regression, I suggest you to report
the issue to https://github.com/qgis/QGIS/issues (if not already
reported) in order to be investigated and fixed if needed.
