Hi,
How long is a piece of string?
You might get a more accurate answer to that question 🙂
So, to try to be more useful to you:
* If Intel, at least i9 "top-end". Look at the number of CPU/threads
but almost more importantly look at the CPU clock speed as the
higher CPU counts can lead to slower clock speed. You can play
around with CPU comparisons on a number of websites. (currently I
would tend towards AMD, though)
* Minimum 32GB, preferably 64GB or even 128GB if budget allows.
Perhaps avoid ECC as it does run (noticeably???) slower.
* In terms of motherboard design, take 'notice' of the number of PCIe
lanes available and how fast/what Gen they are.
* Only use NVMe 'drives', not SATA SSD or 'normal' HDs
* Graphics cards? I am not sure where the price-break between gaming
and 'professional' cards is - *maybe someone else on this list can
help here*.
* Don't forget to have a "few" decent USB ports - at least 3.2 Gen2 x
2 (20Gbps) or USB 4 (40Gbps, even 80Gbps) - But remember that if you
are transferring hundreds of small files (as in multiple File-GDBs)
the file-system as formatted on the USB will have a major impact
(downwards) on your transfer speeds.
* Try to have at least 2.5Gbps network, if 10Gbps not affordable - but
then to benefit from this you will need to connect to an appropriate
network.
I run a 2023 Dell Mobile Precision Workstation 7780 with i9-1390HX,
128GB CAMM non-ECC, RTX-A5000 Ada and a 1TB NVMe for system, plus
another 3 * 8TB Sabrent PCIe 4 NVMe SSDs.
Overkill perhaps, but one gets used to this too quickly and still
complains about "this slow piece of rubbish!!!" 😂😂
Not sure if you mean _/stereo/_ 3D visualisation - if yes, you could end
up spending more on the (Pluraview?) 3D monitor.....
Hope I've helped a bit, at least.
Regards and have fun,
Zoltan

Hi
I hope you are doing well. I am contacting you to request guidance on
recommended hardware specifications for a new workstation that will be
used primarily for QGIS.
**
*What we are expecting to get:*
We want to purchase a new PC that is *in the top performance range*,
optimized for professional use in QGIS.
Could you please advise on the recommended *hardware requirements*
(CPU, GPU, RAM, storage, etc.) for best performance with QGIS 3.40.14,
including demanding GIS workflows such as:
* Large raster datasets
* Complex vector layers and geoprocessing
* 3D visualization (if relevant)
* Rendering and analysis of large projects
