I have been having problems working with ASTER 07XT data (satellite data)
and would like to let people know I have contacted the USGS and they are
looking at the problem. There reply as follows.

" The science team is working on a long term solution for the QGIS issue you
are seeing but in the meantime mentioned:

In QGIS (tested in version 3.40) you can use Raster -> Warp with default
options to remove the rotation. After that you should be able to build a
VRT. As far as the fill value and alpha band, those can be changed by right
clicking on the layer, then Properties -> Transparency tab, then setting the
additional fill value to 0 , and below that changing the transparency band
to None (will remove the masking that happens with the alpha band)."
