Actually, for the Icons of Service, Entity, Value, Transient and Object, I don't like that at all and rather have the S,E,T,O and V letters.
Service; The 'cog wheel' is a potential candidate. What else can symbolize 'service'? A "helping hand"? A "phone" ? Not sure, and asking for suggestions. Entity; A "Thing", something pretty concrete. We have a lot of candidate subtypes around us; Persons, Cars, Trees, Computers and what not, we do have something that can capture all of those in a higher symbol? Value; Perhaps a stream of numbers and/or letters. Or, a "score" such as 3-0 on a result panel. Object; Similar to an Entity, but more undefined. I would be Ok with a "rock" or something else un-refined and crude. Transient; Something that can be 'modified' but is not very persistent. "Sand Castle" comes to my mind, but "waves", "smoke", "transition diagram" are other things I think of. Then we would need symbols for "Layer" and "Module", which seems more straight forward. And while you are at it "Configuration" and "Message" as well.
