A high-performing, advanced, possibly distributed caching layer to be used in
the EntityStore SPI will greatly benefit most Entity Store implementations,
and we will achieve a large bang for the buck.
EhCache is one candidate, and depending on the outcome of design, we might make
this a hard dependency, or we might end up with a pluggable architecture where
ehCache is just one out of several possible implementations. A good balance
between flexibility and complexity needs to made struck.
