Hi,

I did compile ide-smart, it will query the SMART status of
ide-drives under linux-Q40. Seems even prety old drives
support this.
>From the manual:

       SMART stands for Self-Monitoring, Analysis  and  Reporting
       Technology,  which provides near future failure prediction
       monitoring different attributes  (listed  as  Id)  of  the
       device.  

Getting it to work was a little tricky so I will email the
fixed sources to anyone interested.
