You haven't got your facts straight. Microsoft has said the same thing for Messenger, IE, Media Player and their MSJVM (all suits that they lost btw ;-) And by the "after a fashion" that you mention, you probably mean the "Set Program Access and Defaults" which by no means removes anything :-)No you can remove them if you want. It is all out there on the Internet look it up.
I know all that and I said it ten times already... but shouldn't I be able to either buy XP without all that or at least REALLY remove them without wasting a whole day? The problem is that a REGULAR user cannot do it, not at least without a program that does it (and costs...)
The only product that can remove it completely without many (there still are problems with the Control Panel as it uses IE snap-ins )adverse sideeffects is XPLite (<URL:http://www.litepc.com/xplite.html>)
On W2000 and XP it is all in the system (MSIE, Windows Media Player, and Outback) (control panel | Add/remove programs | Add/remove windows components ) or am I being naive and are M$ lying?
No they are not lying (well sort of)... look at the capture here :-) They say what "removal does"

That was their "fix" - removal of "access". Of course if you go to Start > Run and you type iexplore here it is again (same with WM player)
(For Win2K I do not really recall but I never used it much anyway)
If they are, then they can be sued.
They have been and in the US all they came up is the "Remove Access" feature... bull really :-)
