I am not complaining - this whole thread started out with the comment that sometime ago, I had come up with code (in combination with Dilwyn and Marcel I believe) to detect if GD2 was available. What I and Dilwyn did not realise at the time, was that yes we were correctly detecting whether GD2 was available, but this did not mean that high colour drivers were available.
I realise that you were not complaining but the key in Phoebus' back is just too inviting.......
The only problem I have found with QWord is that it smashes whatever is underneath it when I have run it. This is not a QWord problem as such but the O/S cannot handle what QWord does.

Yes, I know that it can smash software. This is less likely to happen if you set the configuration options to prevent QWord from controlling the screen size and resolution depth.

However, there is defintely a problem with running a program of this size under SMSQ/e in that early versions meant that using the QPac2 files menu after you quit QWord could crash the machine (although not whilst QWord is running). We thought that this was a problem with my machine code routines, which Marcel kindly had a look at and I corrected. The problem then went away.

However, as we have been finishing off everything and the program's size has increased slightly more (mainly due to the extra coding in the music program), this problem has raised its ugly head again.

Any ideas - anyone??

Yes we are a fragmented community and the problem started a long time ago before all the free software argument. We lost out because we did not move forward. In 1989 we had a better hardware and software system than the PC did and 6 yours later we didn't. We stuck our heads in the sand and did nothing for a few years. Even now Nasta has been producing great designs which have not been made for the last three or four years. People will not move forward unless you have a pointed stick and when they do they often say 'oh yes this is a better place'. If you swap the stick for a cushion they will sit down and use Quill - and then complain that they cannot print it!!

OK, so maybe we should start a new thread on how to take the QL forward and reunite the community
