Remember, as was pointed > out at the start of this thread, if a program needed the colour drivers to > work, we suggested it check for GD2 drivers but then found that GD2 > existed in SMSQ/e before the actual colour drivers !! Personally, I don't have a problem with a program which either says "I need colour drivers, restart me after you've got your machine ready" or "the machine isn't in the right mode yet, close all other applications and let me know when you;re ready for me to try to switch the machine into the modes I require as long as you accept the possible consequences (machine and/or OS mammary glands up)"
A bit sad that a program finds itself in this situation in the first place. Not having seen QWord, does it check what colour level it's running in and then load the approoriate set of graphics into memory or just load the whole lot and only use those for the mode in question? I suppose another possibility would be to provide separate boot programs for the machines in question, setting the appropriate settings, the boot program would then ask 'Do you wish to run in 1-QL mode 2-256 colour 3-mode 32 (QPC2/QXL) 4-mode 33 (Qx0)' and QWord started via the appropriate boot program. A bit messy, but perhaps less demanding and less controversial. Dilwyn Jones _______________________________________________ QL-Users Mailing List http://www.q-v-d.demon.co.uk/smsqe.htm
