At these URLs there is an interesting article about why there is no 
commercial room for new operating systems any more.

It is interesting because it was written by a young french programmer whom TT 
met back 5 years ago and who now, after having gained a bit of experience, 
expresses the same opinions as Tony always expressed to me. 

AFAIK Emmanuel is in the league of those who understand the differences 
between today's mainstream technology and what could be done. He now also is 
in the league of those who stopped to dream.

The chance of seing new concepts at operating system level are not obvious, 
they can commercially only be tested in a "product" ie hardware that can be 
touched by users/consumers. Then the problem is to define what product and 
how to finance the development. It can be an advantage to have a better 
kernel than others but then there will always be the drawback of drivers when 
new chips are already supplied with drivers for the "industry standard" 
OSes...
