I'm not sure about the slowing down - if I understand correctly what was 
proposed was the the OS would be compressed in ROM and then (entirely) 
decompressed into RAM at boot time, where it would then run full speed.

Probably faster than booting from hard disk.

I presume this will remain a moot point since, as I let appear in my moody 
reply to that suggestion, I don't think anyone will really write such a 
compression/decompression algorythm.
