There are just over two weeks to go before nominations for the Quanta Committee close. This is an important election because this time the officers will be elected for 3 years.
I have given notice that I am prepared to be nominated for the committee, but for no other function. My first QL priority has to be QL Today. If I am not nominated and elected then I am not willing to accept secondment. Two members of the present committee have indicated that they will not stand for re-election and unless others are willing to take their place the committee will be dangerously near being too small to be viable. For all its faults Quanta has proved by QL is 21 and by the survey a year earlier that it can still be a powerful force within the QL community. Currently the crisis of an editorless magazine is taking up a lot of committee time, but this may prove to be the crisis Quanta needed to face up to the magazine's shortcomings. We also need someone to take over responsibility for the website. This has received a lot of criticism on the list, and rightly so, but things are not going to change unless someone is prepared to do the work. Another problem will be the librarian. I recently bought the library CD and was surprised how much has changed since I last took a look. As far as I know it is still the only place where you can get the GD2 version of Quill! (And without giving away too many secrets Quanta has managed to beat QL Today in getting the first review of the program!) Very slowly Quanta is changing - too slow for my liking - and now is your chance to speed that change and help to steer it in the direction you want, Best Wishes, Geoff (Obviously a personal statement.) _______________________________________________ QL-Users Mailing List http://www.q-v-d.demon.co.uk/smsqe.htm
