A fair comment and an opportunity for me to make another personal statement
on the state of Quanta.

One person at the moment has the task of treasurer, membership secretary,
magazine designer and webmaster. He is overloaded with Quanta duties and has
to make priorities. He has rightly chosen to make the website the least of
these.

The most urgent priority for Quanta is the magazine and members will have
noticed a much improved print quality in the last issue, and also in the
next that should be with them very shortly. Unseen to the members are
experiments to investigate downloading and the indications from the first
two download issues are that there are some difficult technical problems
regarding file size and image quality to overcome. I think they can be
overcome, but it will take time.

Having seen the thorough way in which John Gilpin is working on the
magazine, I am sure that when he has completed this job we shall see a much
improved website.

This raises the point that I raised in my last personal statement. Two
members of the present committee are retiring and unless Quanta gets new
blood on the committee - and there are only 10 nomination days left - then
it could be too small to be viable.

As far as membership and finance is concerned there is no reason why Quanta
cannot exist for a minimum of another 5 years. As far as organisation is
concerned the 2007 AGM could be the one where Quanta is wound up,

Best Wishes,

Geoff
