Bill, This is more to do with the difference in how inkjet printers and dot matrix printers work. Whereas a dot matrix would print at the end of each line sent to it, an inkjet waits until it has a page full of data to process and then prints the full page. As you have only sent one line to the printer, it will sit and wait for another 65 lines (standard page length) or the channel to be closed before it starts to print.
